2002: LE MONDE, Francia

“Canción de loa niños muertos” (“Song of the Dead Children”) is one of the biennial opening performances. This company arrives from Venezuela, and it perfectly fits the Amphitheater of the Opera. Dramo sums up findings in an intelligent way. A sucession of short sequences adds to a personal vision of this strange ceremony still practiced in some Andean regions, the ceremony of dead children. With accessory letters, in a quite reduced space, the seven performers relate to a very “ expressionist” vocabulary, revitalized by its intimate movement, a kind of ‘Tanztheater’ revised and processed by a Venezuelan choreographer, Leyson Ponce, “Canción de los niños muertos” speaks about daily violence, life, death, in a very profound language. Never morbid but sometimes serious and always precise, it shows the vitality of young creation in a country financially at the borders of a bottomless pit. It is imperative to see this spectacle, with a splendid solo that is pure joy, savage and tender at the same time, which moves us deeply.
