Leyson Ponce (venezuelan/spanish) is a Ph.D. (Suma Cum Laude) in Philosophy of arts at the Salamanca University, Spain (2018). Master’s Degree in Philosophy of Art (University of Salamanca). Master’s Degree in Management and Cultural Policies (University of Girona, Spain). Degree in Performing Arts (Central University of Venezuela) and Higher Studies in Choreographic Composition at the Folkwang University in Essen, Germany (1992/1995)
Choreographer, dancer, and proffesor. He founded his dance company called Dramo in the mid-nineghties in Caracas, a well known company in the country and abroad. He is currently dancer and choreographer invited by Carmen Werner´s company “Provisional Danza” in Madrid since 2014, where Ponce has investigated and developed a language of movement wherein he juxtaposes intuition, impulse and instinct with energy, risk in order to find new concepts and languages of the body in the context that these movements are involved
In the course of the years Ponce has defined an aesthetic line about performativity that he calls Wisdom of the movement applied in his methodology, recently taught at the University of Leiria in Portugal through the International Mobility Programs ERASMUS+ and Munde, 2022. In the same way artistically beside Werner with their choreography “The Embrace” released in the Festival Surge Madrid has been successfully submitted in Gijón, Miami, USA, Valencia, Zaragoza, Sevilla, Catabria, Vigo, Mexico City, among other presentations.
Ponce is profesor at Nebrija University and TAI (Rey Juan Carlos University). He has participated in congresses and seminars in Venezuela, Spain, USA, Mexico, Argentina and Costa Rica and has articles published in specialized magazines in Venezuela, Spain, Brasil and Argentina.
